Like many quilters Barbara grew up learning and doing some kind of needlework from a very young age. By the age of 9 she could hand sew doll clothes, use a sewing machine, cross-stitch and crochet. As she grew so did her sewing skills. By the time she entered high school she was sewing her own clothes. Sewing has always been a rewarding activity for her.
What began as a diversion from eating on Saturdays with her Mom and sisters quickly became a passion and a career path. Barbara learned to quilt along side her family on Saturdays at her mother’s kitchen table. Learning to quilt has been a wonderful experience and the maker of many memories. One lesson Barbara learned quickly was that quilters love to eat, so much for that plan! But the laughter and the fun has been worth every bite!
Barbara began teaching non-relatives in 1996 and hasn't stopped. She enjoys teaching first time quilters and seeing them progress and then go on to more challenging projects. Her more experienced students inspire her to continue developing classes that allow them to grow and stretch. Barbara has taught classes at several local Adult Education offerings, in many quilt shops on Long Island and given lectures at local guilds.
In 2003 Barbara completed her journey to become a National Quilting Association Certified Teacher. This accomplishment has been very rewarding to her personally and professionally. She enjoys every day spent quilting and teaching. The only thing she enjoys more is her family.
She is also the bookkeeper for the business she and her husband own. They have 3 grown sons, 2 daughters-in-law and one beautiful granddaughter. Barbara can't wait to put a needle in her little hand! She still quilts with her sisters as often as possible because it is FUN!
