DISCONNECTED PIECERS QUILT GUILD

Port Charlotte, Florida

http://dpqg.tripod.com

Fourteen quilters who lived in Port Charlotte area in Southwest Florida attended a quilt show together in Paducah, Kentucky in 1994.  Each was from a different state or country.  In May that year they formed a guild and named themselves "Disconnected Piecers Quilt Guild."  The organization has since grown to nearly eighty members.

The purpose of our guild is to provide an opportunity for social exchange among people with a common interest in and love for the art of quilting.  It is also intended to encourage and provide opportunity for exchange of quilting ideas and projects for beginners as well as more experienced quilters.

Meetings are held at First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte on the third Tuesday of each month.  A short business meeting is followed by Show and Tell, a program and refreshments.  There is also a door prize drawing each month.

Community service is a high priority of our membership.  Our quilters regularly create donation quilts for Tidewell Hospice, veteran quilts, doll quilts for Salvation Army and nap quilts for children in Head Start Programs of Charlotte County Schools.

In addition, DPQG provides classes with local and national teachers, retreats, challenges, and bus trips for its members.

The biennial "Gathering of Quilts" show is held at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center in Punta Gorda on even years.  2014 is our tenth show.  Members are busy making entries for judged categories, creating items for the extensive boutique, and working on the opportunity quilt to be raffled at the show.  A Quilters Auction, door prizes and a large number of venders complete the quilt show experience.
