Thirty years ago eight women organized Hill ‘N Hollow Quilters Guild. The first official meeting of 29 quilters has grown over the years to 150 today. In 1992, a monthly evening meeting was added to the monthly daytime meeting. And, over the last ten years several smaller groups have formed for various special interests such as appliqué, art quilts, special projects, retreats and maybe “just for lunch”.
October 24–26, the Guild’s Autumn in the Ozarks 2013 Quilt Show will exhibit more than 300 traditional and art quilts, wearable art, and home decorator items judged by NQA certified judge, Beverly Fine. The show includes a Country Store, silent auction, door prizes, Find that Quilt Contest, demonstrations, and vendors. Snacks and lunch are provided by the Patchwork Extension Homemakers Club. The Guild’s spirit of sharing began by making and donating baby quilts to Baxter Regional Hospital and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. As membership increased, the list of charity quilt recipients has grown. More than 5,100 quilts have been donated to the local hospital, women’s shelter, law enforcement, public health organizations, veterans organizations, and victims of tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis. In addition, quilts were donated to the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative and the American Quilter’s Society Anchor Project auction for 9/11 victims.
Every year, the Guild brings in regional, national, and internationally renowned teachers for lectures and workshops. Additionally, beginner and Intermediate classes are taught by Guild members.
The Guild’s 2013 fundraising quilt, Nature in the Natural State, was accepted for entrance into the 2013 American Quilter's Society Quilt Show, Paducah, KY. Designed and made by a group of Guild members, the quilt highlights the local twin lakes, along with animals found in the Natural State.
