Who are the members of HGQC?
Similar to syncopated rhythms, strong sounds in an unusual place, the definition of HGQC is a creation of interesting quilts which are not what most see as typical quilting. A progressive group of women who are staples in New York City’s African dance community, professional, well traveled, mothers, daughters, sisters, multitasking women who come together monthly in Harlem, New York to explore the art of quilting, the camaraderie of sisterhood and escape the busyness of their daily lives. Each member has her own distinctive style of creating quilts. Harlem Girls Quilting Circle sets the tone for the urban quilter with an aesthetic which is exclusively their own. An individual who is not a retiree but your cosmopolitan women who represents a life style in modern day New York, creating works which are now becoming part of private collections of New York City’s affluent communities.
