Call for Nominations

From the Chapter Coordinator

From the Membership Chairperson

From NQA President, Judy Taylor:

Hello Quilters!

I’m sitting in Arizona today and just heard on the news that the Northeast is blanketed in a freak October snow storm. With a brilliant blue sky and temperatures in the 80’s, it leaves me with a sense of thankfulness for where I live, where I work and where I pursue my passion for quilting.

Two years ago, I was the President-Elect of NQA.  At that time, my biggest challenge was to find NQA members who were willing to serve on the Board or as a Coordinator. We all know people within our own communities, our own guilds and our professional associations, but in order to meet the needs of NQA we need geographic diversity.  Attrition is a natural process within any organization and so it is with NQA. There comes a time when Board members rotate off and we need replacements that bring with them new energy and new creativity for programs to keep NQA fresh, exciting and always focused on improving the benefits of membership.  About this time every year, we start the call for nominations for the Board, and I would ask each of you to take a moment and consider if this is the year you make a difference and step up to serve.  We need your help!

Your Special Projects issue of the Quilting Quarterly will be arriving in December.  This issue will also include the Registration Brochure for the 2012 NQA Quilt Show.  There are some exciting changes for next year and we can’t wait to unveil them to you.  I know that’s a tease, but I assure you it will be worth the wait!

Thanksgiving will be here before we all know it, and I hope you and your family enjoy this time together and share in the blessings of family, living in America and good health.

Until next time ~ Happy Thanksgiving,

Judy

From the President-Elect, Ruth Pollow

As the NQA incoming President-elect and new member of the NQA Leadership Team, I have been impressed with the generosity and creativity of the women and man who work tirelessly to design and implement the infrastructure that keeps NQA strong and attractive to quilters across the US and around the world.  These people come from the membership of NQA and have chosen to step forward and lead this organization for a time to keep it strong and growing.  Many of them have served NQA well and it’s time for them to move on to other adventures, both within NQA as well as elsewhere.  This means that we need others to step forward and continue in their footsteps.  It’s time for YOU to consider what you can do to serve NQA and to volunteer to lead in the roles where NQA needs you.  NQA is only as strong as its members and those among us who choose to serve the organization and its membership.  Please look at the Leadership Team positions that will be opening for the 2012-2014 term and consider applying for one of these positions.  Talk to the current officer in that position (check website for name and contact information) or contact me, Ruth Pollow, President-Elect for further details.

OPPORTUNITY/RAFFLE QUILT FEATURES

The Tucson Quilter’s Guild, Inc. from Tucson, Arizona has a bright and beautiful Lone Star Quilt featured on the NQA Homepage this month.  If you are looking for ideas for your own chapter’s Opportunity Quilt, this quilt will give you a multitude of ideas—from the unique color selection to the centerpiece star to the unique border.

WEBSITE UPDATE

Last month we issued an invitation to chapters to schedule their Opportunity Quilts on the NQA Homepage.  We asked and you answered! We now have enough interest to warrant creating an entire WEBPAGE dedicated to displaying Opportunity/Raffle Quilts created by ALL active NQA Chapters!   I’ll have more information soon to share with you about this new addition to the NQA website.

Calling all members and chapter members – remember to show us your quilts!  From November 1 to December 31, just go to http://nqaquilts.org/member-spotlight/upload and follow the instructions.  All you need is a digital photo of your quilt and a paragraph about it and you.  It really isn’t hard to do, I promise!

Our regular Member Spotlight will resume in January with Wendy Butler Berns of Wisconsin in the Spotlight.  There are still a few months to fill in 2012, so if you or someone you know is interested in being our featured quilter for a month, please contact me at memberservices@nqaquilts.org .

Please remember to check your membership expiration date.  Hint – it is on your Quilting Quarterly label just above your name on the right.  You can renew on line now, so go to www.nqaquilts.org , hop over to the Membership area and renew from the comfort of your own home!

Don't Forget!

Chapter representatives are encouraged to share all of the information contained in this newsletter with their membership and we welcome ideas and suggestions from your guild to share with other NQA chapters.
