What's "the Buzz..."?

Did you make it to the show? If so, you know it was one of the best ever. If not, we missed you and you missed a great event!

Every year I think it will be impossible to top the quality and creativity in the quilts from the previous year. And yet each year I am proven wrong.

You can find the list of winning quilts on the NQA website at www.nqaquilts.org. Read the President's message below to find out how to order a CD with photos of all the quilts judged in this year's show.

I hope to see you at next year's event!

From the President - Judy Taylor

The 43rd Annual NQA Quilt Show is over and what a success, thanks in part to so many people:

  • The support of the NQA Board of Directors and office staff
  • The outstanding efforts of our show staff
  • The participation of our wonderful vendors
  • The creativity and workmanship of our entrants
  • The hard work of our teachers
  • The commitment of time and energy by our show volunteers and
  • The attendance of you, our NQA members

To everyone I say a heart-felt "thank you" for a job well done. It was a wonderful show and it could never have happened without your support, participation, and commitment to NQA. Thank you again!

If you were unable to attend, you can still purchase a combination pack of the show bag and pin for $10, ordinarily a $15 value. We also have a CD of all judged quilts for $20. There are over 3,300 pictures on this CD. Whether you were unable to attend or just want to revisit the show, you can now do so in the comfort of your own home. Don't forget, the CD also makes a wonderful program for your local quilt guild.

As a reminder, the software that runs the show CD is currently for PC users only, however MAC users can still run the slides directly from the picture directory on the CD as a slide show. Be assured we are making efforts to provide the CD for both PC and MAC users next year. You can purchase the CD and/or the bag/pin combo pack on the NQA web site under "online store" after July 10th.

If you do not have a copy of the show CD and were unable to come to the show, please know that the pictures of the winning quilts will be available on the NQA web site in August, after the distribution of the special show edition of the Quilting Quarterly. As the Quilting Quarterly is a benefit of NQA membership, we want you to have the first opportunity to "see" the quilts before they are accessible to the entire world. Enjoy!

Don't forget to "save the date" for the 44th Annual NQA Quilt Show, Columbus, OH, June 27-29, 2013. We hope to see you there.

 Until next time, happy quilting,

Judy Taylor, President

Share Your Summer Vacation...and Win!

When you take your summer vacation, do you include quilt-related activities? Perhaps you visit quilt shops at your destination, enjoying fabric selections not carried back home. Maybe your plans revolve around attending a quilt show or taking a class. Are you the person who packs her machine and current project into the camper and sews even while away from home?

Share what quilt-related things you’re up to this summer! Send a photo of you, doing something quilty, while on summer vacation....OK...”stay-cations” count too! Tell me what you’re doing in the photo and where it was taken. Everyone submitting a photo will be entered into a small prize drawing. With enough photos, we’ll share how NQA members enjoyed Summer 2012...quilter style...in an upcoming issue of The Quilting Quarterly.

You have plenty of time, but don’t forget the camera! Your photo submissions are due on Labor Day...Monday, September 3...the unofficial end of summer. Send your .jpeg photos and explanation via e-mail to editor@nqaquilts.org.

From the Members Services Chair - Lois Arnold

Bring on the birthday party for America – it’s almost the 4th of July, time to celebrate!  We had a great NQA party in June at the annual show and are already looking forward to next year and the 44th Show.  Start making those patriotic quilts now!

Our July Member in the Spotlight is Linda MacDonald.  You do not want to miss these quilts! Linda is another talented Wyoming quilter and many of her quilts reflect that influence. Be sure to go to the NQA web site at http://www.nqaquilts.org/ ASAP and check out the Member Spotlight. You will be glad you did!

From Cindy Casciato - Grants Program Chair

I’m sending a shout out to all those who contributed a Little Quilt at the 2012 NQA Show. Thanks to you we had 147 Little Quilts donated this year. Even more thanks go out to all the excited bidders we had each day of the show at the silent auction and to those who attended the live auction. You more than exceeded our expectations.

Our NQA Grant Program will again be able to support quilting projects in communities across the country. We are making a difference and enriching the lives of others around us through the art of quilting.

If you are part of an NQA Chapter I hope you will consider applying for a Grant to help your chapter with a worthy project. You can read all about the NQA Grant Program and learn about our mission by visiting our website http://www.nqaquilts.org/.

The applications for grants are available on the NQA web site and are due by October 15, 2012. Awardees will be announced early in 2013. It is expected that grants totaling close to $10,000 will be made.
