From the President - Ruth Pollow

The new NQA Board hails from all across the country, just as do our members and Chapters. The 2012-2013 Board represents South Carolina, Arizona, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Rhode Island, Nebraska, Wyoming, Florida, New York and, of course, Ohio.  If you want to put faces to the names of the current Board, check us out on the NQA website at http://www.nqaquilts.org/ and select Leadership in the About Us button on the left-hand side of the home page.

Did you know that NQA has members in 44 states, including Hawaii?  If you have a chance to travel, visiting Chapter Guilds in other states can be a lot of fun.  Check out the list of Chapters by state on our website. No matter where you go, quilters are welcoming and friendly and so much fun to hang out with.

The fall edition of the Quilting Quarterly should be arriving in your mailbox soon so be sure to check out the quilt stories and patterns in Vintage Quilts and Collections and don’t forget that the October 15 deadline to apply for an NQA Grant is fast approaching.

Ruth Pollow, President

From the NQA Grants Chair - Margie Engel

The final call is sounding for applicants to make sure their grant proposals are submitted. Proposals are due in the NQA office by October 15. Information and the application are on the NQA website. If you or your guild has a great quilt related project that needs funding assistance, NQA grants might help you fulfill your project dreams. If you have questions contact grants@nqa.org.

From the Quilting Quarterly Editor - Barbara Polston

Fall Issue of The Quilting Quarterly on the way!

If you’ve not received it yet, your fall edition of The Quilting Quarterly is on its way to you. This is the first of several themed issues we have planned for the coming months. What is the fall issue theme, you might ask? It’s very vintage, offering you the opportunity to meet collectors of vintage quilts and sewing implements, allowing you to learn how a quilt researcher discovers the secrets in the cloth, and offering patterns that are reproductions of vintage quilts, but with a very modern twist. Even if vintage isn’t your particular focus, I’m sure you’ll find something of interest in the issue...and, don’t be discouraged! We continue to strive to cover all that’s quilt-related and will surely hit your “hot button” soon!

As always, we’re happy to hear from you! Let us know what you like, what you don’t, and what you’d like to see. We do our best to accommodate all your ideas and requests. Write me at editor@nqaquilts.org.

From the Member Services Chair - Mary Anne Ciccotelli

Mildred Sorrells is NQA’s October 2012 Member Spotlight.  She is a very diversified and accomplished quilter and has received many awards.  In 2004, at the NQA show in Peoria, IL, her quilt "Golden Glow" won the Best Hand Quilting Mary Krickbaum Award.  At the 2010 AQS show in Paducah, KY she was awarded the Bernina Machine Quilting Award for her quilt “Charisma”.  Read all about her quilting career and see pictures of her quilts on the NQA Member Spotlight page:  www.nqaquilts.org/member-spotlight/sorrells/index.php

Would you like to be included in the Membership Spotlight?  If so, please contact Mary Anne Ciccotelli (info@newyorkquilter.com) to be added to the schedule.

I am excited to serve on the NQA’s Board as Chairperson of Member Services.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.  Please share your ideas with me on how your NQA membership could be enriched.
