It is time to report on the next election - Spring 2007. The officer positions begin on September 1, 2007, and the Nominating Committee positions begin immediately following the Annual Meeting on June 7, 2007.
These are the dates and deadlines affecting this election.
- Fall 2006 Quilting Quarterly - Publish position descriptions and a call for candidates
- Winter 2006 Quilting Quarterly - Publish the Nominating Committee candidates and call for nominations from the membership (these nominations must be received at the office by February 9, 2007)
- Spring 2007 Quilting Quarterly - Publish nominations from the membership with resume information; publish
ballot, listing all qualified nominees.
To make a nomination for any office or committee position, please submit a resume/bio of the nominee plus a letter, signed by the nominee, indicating his/her consent to serve in the position for which he/she has been nominated. This paperwork must be received at the office by February 9, 2007. Consult the Fall 2006 Quilting Quarterly for position descriptions.
Volunteers are always welcome to serve on NQA committees, as well as to run for elected office. Please contact the NQA office if you would like to have a more active role in the future of our organization. We are also seeking a treasurer to finish the 06-08 term and another member of the Nominating Committee to complete the 06-08 term.
The Nominating Committee presents the following candidates for your information and review.
SECRETARY
Madeline K. Hawley
Athens, Georgia
Madeline's interest in painting led her to making traditional quilts in the late 1970s, and in the 1980s and 1990s, she conducted beginning and intermediate quilting workshops. Her interest in innovative and art quilts then became her primary focus and she continues to enjoy dyeing and painting fabric as well as experimenting with threads and embellishments. Madeline has been an NQA Certified Quilt Judge since 1984 and is qualified to judge Master Quilts. Her work has been displayed in exhibits all over the country and as far away as Africa. Her quilts have been shown on television, in publications and many quilt shows. Other activities include participation in an official capacity for NQA as a past Nominating Committee member and panel member for NQA Teacher Certification.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Beth Norton
Elkhorn, Wisconsin
Inspired by a creative mother who owned a quilt store in the '60s, Beth began teaching and designing her own patterns to sell, eventually becoming hired as a designer by a national company, Kappie Originals. Over the years, she has won several awards for her beautiful quilts. She is currently pursuing judge certification through NQA. She is a member of the Iowa-Illinois Quilt Study Group, NQA and AQS as well as several other quilting groups. Beth has already judged many quilt shows throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Minnesota.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Maretta Miller
Janesville, Wisconsin
Quilting for over 30 years, Maretta has a B.S. in Textiles and Clothing/Construction and has done graduate coursework from Iowa State University as well as the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She has taken part in leadership conferences and has experience in leadership positions in 4-H, FHA, youth programs and church. She is a member of NQA, AQS and seven other guilds. She has done extensive volunteer work, teaching women from 5 different countries through the International Women's Club in Zaire, Africa. She has made charity quilts, has been Quilt Show Chair, Program Committee Member as well as working alongside others to make the quilt shows happen.
