Tucson Quilters Guild
The 2013 Tucson Quilt Fiesta's Raffle Quilt 'Hot Salsa', was designed by Kathy Harris using a traditional New York Beauty paper pieced block. Members that wished to try their hand at making a block were given a bag with various wild colored scraps and urged to 'add to if necessary'. The result is a riot of color, truly earning the name 'Hot Salsa'. Award winning longarm quilter, Penny Allen of Grandma Cat's Machine Quilting added her flair to enhance the already eye popping design of this quilt.

The Textile Artists of Greater Yellowstone NQA Chapter has members from the Great Basin region of northwest Wyoming. Most of us are also members of the Paintbrush Piecers’ Quilt Guild, and together we sponsor the annual Yellowstone Quilt Fest in Cody. A feature of our quilt show is a Block Challenge. Last year’s theme was “Spirit of the West” and blocks from that challenge have been made into this year’s raffle quilt.
Fifteen ladies made unique blocks interpreting the “Spirit of the West” in their own way. These blocks were then assembled by Ann Jefferis into our gorgeous raffle quilt. Jeanne Knudsen did the quilting, and Helen Wichern provided the binding. Truly a group effort.
The raffle will take place on Saturday, September 15th, 2012, and the winner need not be present to win. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. To purchase tickets, please contact Linda H MacDonald at lov2quilt@gmail.com.
The 2012 Block Challenge theme is “Wish You Were Here”, and is based on postcards. For more information see our website at www.yellowstonequiltfest.info

Gems of the Prairie Quilters, NQA Chapter #486,
P.O. Box 9543, Peoria, Illinois 61612-9543
The 2012 Gems of the Prairie Raffle Quilt was truly a group effort, with 46 members lending their skills to this project. The quilt was designed by Dolores Smith and Sarah Maxwell owners of Homestead Hearth Quilt Shop in Mexico, MO. Their quilt was named “Points of Pride” and appeared on the cover of American Patchwork and Quilting in August of 2010. They were very excited that their quilt was chosen for our raffle quilt and gave both their permission to use their pattern and best wishes for a very successful raffle. Our version of this fabulous quilt is named “Pride of the Prairie”. This star-studded bed size quilt measures 96” X 96” and was made using over 100 different red, cream, and blue fabrics; the batting is wool. Made of 64 large New York Beauty blocks arranged around a center, this quilt has a very dramatic look. Members of the Gems of the Prairie helped in the construction by paper-piecing the red and cream star points. Jackie O’Laughlin completed the blocks, pieced the top, and added the binding and label. Award winning long arm quilter, Sherrie Coppenbarger added her artistry in thread and made this quilt truly spectacular. The timeless beauty of this quilt will make an heirloom to pass down for generations to come.

Shenandoh Valley Quilters Guild Raffle Quilt.
Guild member, Connie Broy, designed the pattern for our raffle quilt, using quilting software. She started using a pattern called "a square within a square within a square" but her inspiration was to create a design representative of the Shenandoah Valley. Committee members wanted the material to be batiks and mainly in the pink and blue families. Members pieced squares and member Bonnie Spoon machine quilted it. Guild members brainstormed for the title and voted on, "Sunrise Over the Blue Ridge" (mountains within the Shenandoah Valley). Raffle tickets were sold at various businesses within the valley and the winner will be announced at the guild show this June. Some of the raffle money will go to the Shenandoah Literacy Agency.

March 2012 Raffle Quilt
“Jewel of the Gulf”, the 2012 Venice Area Quilters Guild 2012 raffle quilt, is an adaptation of Judy Niemeyer’s Tropical Flowers Wall Hanging Pattern from her Pineapple Sensations Series. Judy gave us permission to use this paper pieced design. Using EQ a member enlarged the design to 94x94. Applique was taken off the border and a double border with a narrow inset was used to feature designer free-motion long arm quilting, by an award winning member of a neighboring guild.
Several members embarked on a month long search for the distinctive fabric for the centers of the stars. When it was found, ten guild members met in a retreat to begin the paper piecing. Approximately 20 members of the 350 member guild, collaborated on the raffle quilt. The borders feature dolphins, tropical flowers and motifs in variegated threads. The back of the quilt is also a visual treat.
The winner of this raffle quilt will be drawn on Sunday April 1, 2012 at the end of our 2012 show, Quilting by the Gulf XIV. The quilt show, which opens on Saturday March 31 at the Venice Community Center in Venice, FL, features over 200 quilts, a unique boutique with over 2500 items, vintage quilt turning, an auction of mini quilts benefiting our local Food Pantry, a merchant mall, and a tea room with proceeds for cancer research

January 2012 Raffle Quilt

The 2012 DPQG queen-sized raffle quilt, “After the Storm,” was designed using the traditional “Storm at Sea” block. A committee of 5 of our 70 members collaborated on the design. The colors were arranged progressing from the “sunshine” at the top to the light blue and green “waters” to the purples and dark blues of the “depths”, showing how life in the Gulf survived the hurricane. Pre-cut paper piecing kits were offered to the membership, then the committee assembled the top. The borders feature hand appliqued sea horses and grasses with machine appliqued scallop shells on the corners. Another of our members free-motion stitched the sea life motifs using her long-arm machine.
The winner of this raffle quilt will be drawn at the end of the biennial quilt show, “A Gathering of Quilts,” which will be held at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center in Punta Gorda, Florida, on February 24-25. On display will be 250 quilts, along with the traveling “Hoffman Challenge” and a “Featured Artist” display. There will also be 19 vendors, a large boutique featuring quilts and other useful items made by members, and a “Quilter’s Auction”.
